Bedroom Refresh

Modern country bedroom makeover. Soft terra cotta half height painted walls, natural linens and gallery wall.

With my little office / haven at the end of the garden having been stolen by the husband and the rest of the house having to work harder than ever as it doubles as a nursery; classroom; 24hr cafe I was so excited to be given the opportunity by John Lewis to give our bedroom a quick refresh to create a much needed sanctuary. To be honest It’s been on the to-do list for months, but somehow I never quite found the time nor inspiration. Thanks to John Lewis I finally got round to giving the bedroom a quick lockdown update.

I felt that the space needed “warming up”. Basically I wanted it to feel like the room giving me a lovely big hug at the end of the day! I used the same approach I have with all of the rooms in the house, Modern style with rustic textures and personal touches.

had height wall painted in Paint and Paper Library Rouge II. A dusky pinky terracott shade adds contrast to a light upholstered bed, dressed in natural washed linens.

I started by painting the lower half of the walls in a warm pinky plaster (borderline terracotta) shade. Rouge II by Paint & Paper Library.  As a child of the 80’s I’d never of thought that I’d opt for a terracotta shade on the walls! But it’s so grounding and really added warmth to the space and provides a great contrast to the light headboard.

The Modern Rustic Must have…

a washed linen throw. It adds contrast to natural bedlinen and brings all the textural goodness. I use these throws all the time in shoots because they drape so beautifully but (I’m ashamed to say)have never owned one myself (whaaaaat!!)

Tight details of dusky pink velvet with stitched geometric design.

Detailed Velvets

They are big news in all the AW collections that I’ve been starting to see come through. I love the detailing in these cushions, they add a little modern luxe vibe to all the natural linens.

The wall behind the bed is a mix of lots of pieces we’ve collected over the years and pieces the kids have created…but it was beginning to get a little too eclectic – so adding in new black frames has helped to tie all of the pieces together.

The Finishing Touch…

An ultrasonic room diffuser. I love how beautifully simplistic it is, meaning it ties in beautifully with my vases. It fills the room with spa-like scents; positivity and good vibes!

Such a simple refresh but it’s honestly given me such a boost.
